These are some of the casual portrait shots taken at Moniqus’s home during the Chinese New Year visiting. I love the orange color feature wall in his living room that simply adding warm and cheerful feeling to boost up the new year mood. :-)

Dec 05

It was an early sunday morning with the diffused warm sunlight gently penetrating into the bedroom through the sliding door. Little Jerome woke up early to get his cloth changed then laying in his baby cot starring at the clear blue sky outside.

I saw calmness in his eye with the peaceful sight looking forward. For me that is something which is diminishing from most of us as we grow up. Take a breath and recall when was the last time that you found calmness and peacefulness in you eyes as you wake up.

Wish you have a nice weekend. :-)

I just can’t resist to shoot this naughty face whenever i saw him with my camera on my hand. His face is always full of naughty and funny expression that makes me wouldn’t feel bore to look at him. I love to shoot his big crystal eyes that attract many people’s attention.

How time flies! My wife is now in her 27th week of pregnancy. It also marks the starting of the final trimester of the pregnancy with 13 more weeks to go. I took some simple shots for her just to record down how she look like now so that we can show it to our little boy in future. :-)

Recently i discovered that i tend to shoot tightly cropped-up portrait instead of using wide angle to incoprorate everything from head to toe. I prefer to keep everything in a simple, relax and comfortable way in order for me to put more attention on my subject and capturing their facial expression. For me a photo is much more meaningful if it carves the subject’s momentary expression into memory rather than a typical purposely posed portrait.

As a result, the photo come out will be just like the one you can see in the blog entries for JiaJin and WenWen that i posted recently. Then many questions will come up such as “Why part of the head is cropped away?”, “Why only shoot the face?”, “Why not include his feet?” and so many and many “WHYs” again. Then i realise that many people still prefer those typical posed portrait. For most people a good portrait need to cover everything from the head to toe, both eyes have to be constantly starring at the camera and last by not least a big smile is a must.

Well, i am not saying that typical posed portrait is not good but it just not my way of shooting. I knew that it is impossible for me to get a shot that every body love but at least try my best to freeze those momentary expression before it disappears and i am happy with it. :-)

家晋 is Yit Ping’s nephew from Singapore. He was in Kuching for a week of vacation recently. I took these shots on the second day of Gawai holiday before he flied back to Singapore. He is cute and i believe he is going to be a handsome and smart guy like his father when he grow up.

Well, since Ping ask me this question so i just post the photos in both colour and monochrome for her to see the differences. I always shoot in the colour RAW format simply because most of us prefer to see vibrant colour photo. Sometine i will convert the photo into black and white just to create a feel of simplisity and relaxing. Black and white is simply beautiful too. :-)

Last saturday my 3 years old nephew, Jonathan asked me to take his photo when he saw me capturing the rice dumpling making process at my parent home. He is a very cute, creative but naughty boy that just cant stop for a second. It is impossible to get him pose properly so I used high shutter speed and off camera flash just to freeze these photo while he was playing around.
